Starting to prep for Anime Boston 2017!
While we have been talking about ideas for 2017's Anime Boston lineup since before 2016's Anime Boston even happened, only in the last few months have we started to really pin down some solid plans.
These are ALWAYS subject to change of course (this time last year I was still trying to figure out my FFX cosplay and was getting really discouraged!) but I feel really good about my choices this year and don't plan on changing them.
My feelings going into this this year are already different as well. I know what to expect. I know that if I somehow mess up HORRIBLY and can't get a costume together, I can always use one of the three I used last year as a worst case scenario. It feels really good to have a backup!
Anyways, this year will be a little different as far as group cosplays. First, we have a few new people joining us for 2017. One is a friend of Amie's that I haven't met yet. I don't know a lot about her, but I am excited to meet another cosplayer!
Another new cosplayer joining us will be one of my college friends, Manda. She lives in Connecticut so she's not too far from Boston. About a 2 hour drive, just like the girls from Maine. So with a bigger group, we might not be doing a large group cosplay this year.
The other change is that Nichole has decided to compete with her cosplaying this year, and Amie will be joining her. Cat was going to do this too, but she's happily expecting her first child, and the stress of planning a cosplay to meet competition standards might be a bit much!
Because I am still a cosplay newbie, I didn't think I'd be up for competing, so I will instead do my own thing!
Here's my list for Anime Boston 2017!
Day 1, Friday
While Team Maine plans on going as Game of Thrones characters, Team Colorado (Nichole and I) are going to cosplay BLEACH!
I am going as one of my favorite characters, Yoruichi. She's awesome, and while I plan on buying what I need to put her costume together, the more I look at it, the more I think "maybe...I can make this without butchering it..."
Worst case, I will buy it if I need to. But I think I can make hers this year! All I really need to make is the orange jacket, the white piece on her shins, and the hair piece!
Day 2, Saturday
This is when Amie and Nichole will be competing with their Tsubasa cosplay. I haven't seen Tsubasa, so I thought I'd do my own thing. Cat and I planned to do Dragon Ball Z together (the first anime I remember seeing, so it's one of my favorites!) But Cat may have changed her mind. I think right now she plans on doing something from Food Wars.
So, I decided to be Goku from Dragon Ball Z. If someone joins me, great. If not, no problem!
I am thinking that Fem Goku would be a lot easier. Mostly because Goku's hairstyle is intimidating and it's hard to make a wig like that look good, and also because a good college friend of ours that we run into every year always dresses up as Goku. I felt like being Female Goku would be fun because then I'm not taking that away from him.
This is a cosplay I plan on making. The costume is simple, Nichole has a pattern I can use for the top (the same patten I can probably use for Yourichi's jacket) and I got a pattern for the pants.
The only other things I will need are the blue wristbands, belt, and the boots which I found a tutorial for!

I already have a dark blue shirt which will work to go underneath.
Day 3, Sunday
While I am not sure what Team Maine is doing yet, Nichole, Manda and I are cosplaying My Little Pony!
This one is super simple, and I think I can get everything I need from GoodWill. While I plan on going as Applejack, Nichole plans on going as Rarity, and Manda will be Rainbow Dash. Which is awesome, because then we represent the three kinds of Ponies in Equestria! (Earth Pony, Unicorn and Pegasus).
I don't plan on copying the clothing on "human" Applejack. I have a red plaid shirt and a cowboy hat so far. I think I just need a good pair of jeans, some cowboy boots, and a orange tank top that I can paint the apples onto.
The wig part I saved for last, because I am hoping I can use the same blonde wig for Applejack and for Super Saiyan Goku. (In the show Dragon Ball Z, Saiyens have a powerful level they can reach called Super Saiyen, and their black hair turns yellow).
The only reason it won't work is if Applejacks hairstyle is too county looking for a Super Saiyen Goku. So it might depend. I might need a black wig for Fem Goku.
Nichole and I have only just started collecting things we need, but I plan on really pushing to start getting these done so we don't have panic attacks in January.
I am looking forward to a new year and new experiences, and I can't wait to have some new people join us! (Plus I haven't seen Manda since my first year in Colorado!)
