Anime Boston 2016
This post is very very overdue, but here is what transpired during Anime Boston!
(all photos are mine unless credited otherwise. Don't forget to always ask permission to take someone's photo, and if you have a photo taken of you, credit the photographer and cosplayer!)
Friday, March 25 2016. MAGI day!
Nichole and I had a smooth flight on Jetblue, only a few bumps landing in the fog. It was so foggy the ground seemed to have come out of nowhere!
We landed just before 5am, and we skipped getting coffee so that we could nap at the hotel. (Although the Dunkin at the airport called to us... Dunkin Donuts is still hard to find in Colorado. When I moved here in 2013 there was only one in Colorado Springs, now we have one in town!)
A little after 6am the shuttle bus Go Boston came to get us, and it only cost $5!
We arrived at the Sheraton around 6:30-7ish, and got a nice room! We managed to get a short nap in before the others arrived, and then it was time to get ready!
The line for the elevator was long, and they had blocked off the stairs for security reasons. Once we made it through the line for the elevator, we had a longer wait in the preregistration line. (For anyone who had NOT preregistered, that line was at LEAST twice as long! Good thing we had preregistered!)
We got our badges (I was Warrior Magi, a combo of our two group cosplays). They also gave us a schedule and program book!
After that line, we had to wait in the line to get into the convention. They made us wait outside, and it was raining! Of course I was wearing white that day!! Luckily it was a very light rain, and we got in soon enough.
After we finally got in, it was time for another line! Cat and I were hungry, so we waited in line for some sweet Dunkin Donuts coffee and breakfast!
After we ate, it was off to the Artist Alley! This room is full of handmade items which were all amazing! A lot of the people had etsy shops, so we collected business cards so that we could buy from their stores at a later date if we ran out of money.
We ran into another Morgiana, and I found a family cosplaying X-men! <3
Next we went to the dealers room, which is where they sell licensed merchandise. This room had a lot to look at too! So many tempting things to buy!
Around 2pm we went to get more food (the food court was closed this year, but they had a small concession area where you could get pre-made burgers, hotdogs, and some other things that were kept warm on a heated rack. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best food ever either!
We went to a panel about how to style wigs afterward, which was very interesting. Wigs are a lot more complicated than I thought! Especially if you want to make a thicker wig, you have to actually add more hair to it to make it look really good.
Cat, Nichole, and I later ended up in a panel about the history of the Kimono, which was another interesting topic!
At 5 we met up with Amie, who had been off taking pictures all day, and we raced outside to take pictures in our cosplay. It had stopped raining and Amie took amazing photos as always!
We split up for dinner, because Nichole and I were exhausted and wanted a quick dinner while the others wanted a sit-down meal.
On our way back to the hotel, we ran into some very excitable Magi cosplayers! We had forgotten about the meetup for Magi cosplayers to get their photos together, and we let them talk us into going!
It was awesome seeing the work the other cosplayers put into their cosplay! Plus, I really enjoyed how everyone got into character. It felt like I was interesting with real characters from the Magi universe!
Sorry about the photo quality, I was too shy to bring a real camera and get good photos, these are all done with my phone!
After the photoshoot, Nichole and I ran back to the hotel room to get some sleep!
Saturday, March 26 2016. Day Two, FFX day!
We slept in until 9am, and then got dressed for another full day. While Nichole was getting ready, Cat, Amie and I went to get coffee at the Starbucks downstairs.
Once we were all dressed and sufficiently caffeinated, we went off to the Final Fantasy Photo Shoot meetup!
It was inside right where the Magi photoshoot was, right where the hallway that lead to the food court was that had been blocked off. I saw another moogle there, and she gave me an easter egg!
After the photoshoot, we went back to the hotel room to eat PB sandwiches and drop off the props we didn't want to cart around all day. Amie took off again to take more pictures, so the rest of us went to the artist alley and dealers room to torture our wallets.
I bought a few patches for my nerd jacket (a jean jacket I have covered in nerdy things), and a Morgiana keychain to celebrate my first cosplay!
We ran into some college friends in the Artist Alley, which was awesome!
We explored the convention a little bit more, and found a video game room, where we played a drum game that was entirely in Japanese, so we had to guess what settings we were picking!
After wandering some more, we came across the Port Con booth (truthfully Port con was the first convention I had ever gone too. I went with my cousin, and we didn't cosplay. I did however, wear a bright colored wig to try and blend in...That was back in high school).
It was nice to see Maine representing with its own small anime convention! (Well, small compared to Anime Boston).
When it was time to meet back up with Amie again, we swung back to the hotel to grab our props, time for our last photoshoot with Amie!
We went back outside where it was sunny, but cold and windy. A man smelling strongly of alcohol and pushing a cart full of empty bottles asked for our photo.
We ended up eating pizza for dinner that night around 6, at a place called California Pizza Kitchen. It was really good food!
At 8pm we lined up near the entrance for Extreme Geek, something that the girls had been raving about so I was really curious what I was in for. They let us in at 9:30, and to set the Adult theme of the panel they were playing adult themed songs, followed by a video: "Too Many Cooks". I Know that doesn't sound adult, but watch it. It's...uh, unusual. And catchy.
They started the panel by showing us a full frontal Trump (Now forever burned into my poor brain...) and there were a lot of penis jokes.
I realize this doesn't do it any justice, so I will just say that it was an adult themed, crazy and fun event. There was trivia, a drawing contest (which included being an expert drawer of male reproductive organs), and a Snapchat challenge. Next came an eating challenge, which maintained the adult theme without being too over-the-top. There was a "finish the sentence" story game, and lastly, a drag race game where the players had to borrow items from the crowd to make the best "drag" outfit.
Overall, it was a hilarious event that I really enjoyed and look forward to going to again next year.
After Extreme Geek only Cat and I stayed at the con while everyone went to bed. We went to a horror panel at 12:30 which talked about monsters in anime. We ended up being too tired to stay the whole thing, but we tried!
Sunday, March 27 2016. Day Three, Supernatural day!
We woke up around 9:30 and packed our stuff up. After getting dressed, we brought our suitcases to Amie's car to store until later.
Amie left us for yet another photoshoot, and Cat went to a panel with Ed and Kalen while I checked us out of the room and Nichole got us coffee.
The lines for everything were still surprisingly long, but we managed! We had to wait outside again to get into the con, and when we got in we ran into one of the girls Amie had taken photos of. She was dressed as Alibaba from Magi, and we discovered she loves Supernatural! Yay!
We spent the rest of our money in the artist alley and dealer's room, before meeting back up with the group for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory! (A Nerds with Needles tradition).
After lunch, we swung by Amie's car to get our suitcases. We said our goodbyes as Team Maine departed to try and beat Boston traffic to drive home, and Nichole and I went back to the hotel to change into casual clothing for the plane ride home.
We grabbed a bus to the airport, and next thing we knew, we were flying back to Colorado!
I can't believe how fast the whole weekend went, especially Sunday! It was the one day we didn't get pictures of our cosplay. = (
All in all, it was a fantastic weekend and I am looking forward to going again!

From Final Fantasy 7. The only Final Fantasy Game I am familiar with from watching my brothers play! |
I LOVED this costume! So pretty! |
Nichole took this pic for me using my little camera. This stranger moogle was so cool! |
