Denver Comic Con!
Another late post, this was from back in June 2016!
After all the tremendous fun we had at Anime Boston, it was time to try our first comic convention!
Neither of us had been to a comic con before, so we were not really sure what to expect. We knew there would be celebrities, which was an exciting to think about, because Nichole and I had never meet anyone famous before.
We are both the kind of people who aren't easily "star struck." As much as I admire a person's work, they are people after all, and there is a small handful that I really would like to meet.
Two such people were at Denver Comic Con this year!
Back in college I happened upon a parody video by the Hillywood Show. I think the first one I found was their Twilight parody. I remember I watched it even though I didn't really care for Twilight because my sister-in-law had me read the books and I hadn't bothered to watch any of the movies, so I was curious.
I really enjoyed the way they set up the shots, the detail, and their amusing music choice. http://www.thehillywoodshow.com/videos/twilight-parody/
They have several parodies now, and they just get more and more amazing! These girls are often credited for their attention to detail, and it's not just from the show they are parodying, but from the music video as well. (Check our their webpage! http://www.thehillywoodshow.com/ )
When Nichole and I heard they were going to be at Denver Comic Con, (Or DCC for short) they became our top choice for who we wanted to meet.
We had a few other top choices, including Karl Urban, and John Rhys-Davies. There were a few others I was interested in, actors and actresses from Doctor Who and Gotham, but Nichole wasn't into those fandoms like I was so they didn't really make the top of our list. (I made a list of who we wanted to see, if I can find it I'll post the picture!).
We agreed Hillywood was absolutely our first choice, and Nichole bought the ticket to have our photos taken with them!
With that important decision made, time for the CON!
We only went on Saturday, not having a lot of time to go (it was busy season at my work, and really hard to get time off on a weekend). Our friend Alexandria joined us, and spent the night so we could leave bright and early.
We left the house around 7am, Denver was only about 45 minutes away. We made it about 5 minutes down the road, when Nichole realized she forgot the paperwork to get our pictures with Hillywood. So, we turned around to get them.
We made it to the highway when she realized she forgot her wallet. I was uncertain if it would be important, but better safe than sorry, so we turned around again!
I did not write down what time we got to the convention, but we found parking easily enough, and we got to the convention a little before they opened the doors. It was a long line to get in, that wrapped around the building!
I regret not taking more photos of that. I will make sure to take more pictures next year!
When we got in, we agreed on a meeting place in case we got split up, and ended up walking the Artist Alley for about 4 hours. There was just so much to see!!
My feet still hurt thinking about it...Remember cosplayers, sensible shoes!
Around 1 we got lunch, the cafeteria room was very full and the lines for food were long. But I recall the burger being delicious!
We went to a Hillywood panel where the girls came in and talked, answered a few questions, and then showed off a few our their favorite videos. These included their Walking Dead Parody, (one of my favorites) their Doctor Who Parody, and their Supernatural Parody. (I think there were more, but this is what I get for writing about this in October instead of right after the CON in June.)
After we went to the Celebrity Summit, where we finally realized Hillywood had a booth and we could have said 'hi' already. We agreed to go back to their booth after the photoshoot. Nichole and I waited in line for our photo with them, while Alexandria walked the Artist Alley one more time.
When the time came to get our photos taken, I was shocked how fast it went. You had about a second to say hi, and then we were posing, they got a photo (maybe two so they could give us the better one of two) and then it was over.
They were absolutely amazing, kind and sweet people and I hope I get the chance to see them every year!
By the time we were done, it was maybe around 5, and we were dead tired. So, we went home!
Next year we definitely want to get a hotel room, so that 1. we can go more than one day, and 2. so that we have a place to take a nap or even stash some sandwiches so we can avoid the crazy lines!
DCC was an amazing experience, and we want to plan ahead better for next time. We missed Stan Lee's panel (it was full by the time we got there!) and I would love to check out more panels!
I think I might get another photo with a celebrity, but considering how rushed it was, I'm not certain I would get a picture with someone I REALLY want to meet/talk to. It's just over way too fast!
I understand why of course, they have a lot of fans to get in and they don't have much time. So, anyways, for anyone new to comic conventions, keep in mind it will be over so fast you can't afford to blink! But, you 'll get an awesome photo with someone you've always wanted to meet...
Anyways, we are planning on going to DCC again in 2017, and we are planning to go as My Little Pony. So, I will start blogging progress soon enough, because next up is Anime Boston 2017!

I brought my Castiel and Crowley toys to DCC. Here we are waiting for the Hillywood sisters to show! |
