Marathon Day to get cosplay DONE, and additional updates

We had been procrastinating. Dragging our feet and stalling every Sunday, and while Colie and I managed to get a lot done, we found ourselves at the end of February with a long list of things still to do, and con was waiting just around the corner.

So, Colie and I decided to have a "cosplay marathon" where we lock ourselves in our craft room and cosplay all day, getting as much done as possible!

On February 26, a Sunday, we started around 12, and all motivation died after a hefty spaghetti dinner at 6pm. However, I was able to get a few things on my checklist done! Including:

__ Style Yoruichi's wig
__ Yoruichi's belt
__  Ironed on Goku's Kami house symbol
__ Finished sewing on stupid bias tape on white part of Yoruichi's jacket

We made a progress video, for your viewing pleasure:

I really thought I was going to get everything done, but alas, not the case. So, the very next Sunday, March 5, we did another cosplay marathon. This time, we had finger food for dinner (I had totinos pizza rolls, my favorite!, and Colie had chicken strips) We found we were able to cosplay longer, and I got pretty much everything done! Including:

__ Yoruichi's legging bottoms
__ Fixed Yoruichi's shoes
__ Sewed on white part of jacket onto jacket
__ Yoruchi's scarf
__ Sewed on Apple Jack's cutie mark

The only things I had left to do, was make a bow for Goku, fix Apple Jack's hat so it stayed on, and sew Yoruichi's jacket closed, all of which I did the following Sunday after work.

For your viewing pleasure, here is marathon day 2

Because I have not been keeping up with this blog like I meant to, there are some other updates and things that have happened since I wrote the blog: Starting to Prep for Anime Boston 2017! in October. So, I'll just write about all of that now.

For starters, and this is important for future Jen to remember, we need to book a hotel room in November at the latest. I believe we procrastinated because we were not sure who was coming, or how many rooms we would need.

I learned the hard way that booking in December is too late, all of the hotels nice and close to the convention will be booked and we will have to take the T to get to and from the con every day. Considering Colie is planning on competing at the Masquerade in a long, flowing, white dress, you can imagine the horror she must have been feeling at the thought of riding in public transport in something that had to be kept perfectly clean and crisp.

In January, Amie came to our rescue. She had heard through the grape vine there were some rooms left in a hotel in the convention center, and she managed to snatch one up. We were very, very, very lucky, and I am certain Colie was very, very, very relieved.

Long lesson short: Book a hotel room in November, maybe even late October, just to be safe.

Speaking of Masquerade, Colie decided to sign up and compete with a cosplay from Tsubasa. She is going as Sakura, and has put a LOT of work into this cosplay. Spray painting beads, sewing the dress, dying fabric, it's a beautiful and intricate design, and it's coming out pretty amazing.

Originally, Amie and Cole were thinking about joining in, but in the end, the only one competing will be Colie. I plan on taking a video of the Masquerade if it's allowed, so you can see how it looks!

This is the dress she is making. Very long and flowy

We have a change in people coming to Anime Boston with us this year. Sadly, Cat of Nerds with Needles will not be going (though she may come down for a day and make a 'celebrity appearance.')

Cat is now a first time mom! Which is of course very exciting, and I look forward to future conventions where I am sure she will bring her son. (In adorable cosplay, no doubt).

While we will not have Cat this year, we will have two new additions to our merry little group.
Amie's friend Cole (who Colie says I met in passing last year) will be joining us, which is fantastic news. It's always nice to expand our group a little more so we can cosplay as more things, and everyone always brings something new to the group. Cole has cosplayed before, and unlike me, is not a cosplay newb at all!

The other new addition is one of my best friends Manda!! I am very excited she is coming, mostly as it will mean I finally get to see her again! Manda and I met in college -in Chemistry class...

I was  pretty shy and she seemed pretty cool (she is) and so one day after sneaking into the lecture class late (I over slept again) I sat next to her. I think I picked her because she had really cool colored hair..teal I think? We didn't actually become friends until later when my friend Nate started dating her friend Annie. Clearly it was fated that we should be friends!

Later on we both did a study abroad together in Costa Rica, which was an amazing experience and I am so glad Manda was there with me!

Manda is still pretty new to the con scene, she went to Connecticut con some time ago (before college, I think) and will be the only one in the group not coming from Maine or Colorado. Manda is a rouge from Connecticut!

Manda and I in Costa Rica, 2012

The only other update that I can think of is that because I am doing a fem Goku, Colie was thinking of being a male Chichi for Denver Comic Con. We also recently found out Nathan Fillian will be at DCC, so we are considering doing a Firefly cosplay...either way I am very excited to potentially meet him! DCC has so many amazing guests to go see...it's so hard to pick!

My next blog should be right before we leave for Boston...Thursday! March 30. This time last year we were in Boston already!
